Motivation Made Simple

A common struggle people experience when trying to reach their fitness goals is maintaining motivation. Motivating yourself is crucial to stay consistent with workouts and nutrition. Although it may seem impossible at times to muster up enough motivation to continue your journey, there are a few simple steps you can take that will set you on the right path to keep moving forward!

Find your WHY.

Why do you want to lose weight? What/who inspires you to work out? Find a reason for wanting to improve your overall health. Do you want to look better in a bikini? Do you want to be able to do more activities with your children? Do you want to run a marathon to help raise money for a worthy cause? Is your weight putting you at risk for certain medical issues? Every individual has their own reason for wanting to change, and discovering your reason is a crucial part of maintaining motivation throughout the process. Know what drives you to be better and remember it. As I have mentioned in other blog posts, my grandpa is my why. When he passed away from heart disease, I decided to start living a healthier lifestyle and encouraging others to do the same.

Set GOALS.

Setting goals is one way to monitor your progress and keep you moving toward success. Set both short-term and long-term goals for yourself. Write them out and post them on your wall. Take a photo of them and set it as your background. Do something that will constantly remind you why you started this journey in the first place and what you are working to achieve. Achieving short-term goals provides a sense of accomplishment and generates hope that will help you maintain your motivation to keep moving toward your long-term goals. During my journey, I posted sticky notes around my house and on my bathroom mirror.

Tell OTHERS.

Share your goals with your friends and family. Tell them what you are trying to accomplish and why. Take photos of the before stage so that you will be able to monitor your progress. Post updates on your social media, and be proud of your progress! Let your friends know that you have started this journey so that you will be more committed to achieving the results you want. I made an Instagram account specifically for my journey and have had many friends and family members follow it! I’ll link it below if you would like to follow along.

Find an ACCOUNTABILITY partner.

Your accountability partner could be a best friend, coach, husband, significant other, or family member depending on who will work best for you individually. Find someone who will hold you accountable, support you, consistently praise you for your successes, and encourage you after failure. Finding friends and family that will support your journey can help increase confidence and motivate you to stay on track.

DO IT.

If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen. It is never too late to start working toward your goals. Pick a day to start your journey so you are not able to keep putting it off. Do not give up. You might have a bad DAY, but that does not mean you must have a bad WEEK. Get right back to it! You are going to SUCCEED!
