On September 30,2017, I competed in the Miss Nashville Pageant. I was in complete shock when the announcer called my name as the new Miss Nashville 2018. I was shaking as I was handed flowers, my sash was placed across my shoulder, and they pinned a crown on my head. In disbelief, I looked to see familiar faces in the crowd smiling and capturing photos. This was it, the beginning of a new chapter, a new year as Miss Nashville.
“Style, Service, Scholarship, and Success” – The Four Points of the Miss America Crown
If you aren’t familiar with the Miss America Organization, it is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs for young women. Each contest is judged on five categories: interview, swimsuit, evening gown, talent and on stage question. Each contestant has their own personal platform along with serving the organization’s national platform, Children’s Miracle Network.
Over this year, I will be dedicated to representing the city of Nashville, working closely with Children’s Miracle Network, and advocating for “Life is Why” Choosing to Live Healthy. I have partnered with the American Heart Association to raise awareness and stress the importance of prevention. I will be attending local events and functions and working diligently on my interview skills, onstage question prep, and swimsuit/evening gown walking. I will continue with my voice lessons to work on improving/perfecting my talent. This is all in preparation for the Miss Tennessee Pageant in June 2018.
I am so blessed to have this wonderful opportunity. I know that I have big shoes to fill, but I am committed to giving my all throughout my service this year. I could not be more excited to be working with my new director, Scott Hilburn. I also cannot thank my friends and family enough for all of their support and encouragement. This week following the pageant has felt surreal. I have already begun working with my director in planning some exciting things. I hope you will follow my journey as Miss Nashville 2018.
